Music Curriculum
A high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. At St Thomas’s CE Primary School, we aim to inspire, challenge and motivate children so that they will believe in themselves to achieve their very best, and succeed in life.
At St Thomas’s, we use the National Curriculum, the Early Years Foundation Stage document, our Promises Curriculum and the Charanga Music School Scheme as the basis for planning in Music. The curriculum provides an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning. It encourages the development of musical skills through listening and appraising, differing musical activities (including creating and exploring) and performing.
The lessons are comprised of three strands:
- Listening and Appraising
- Musical Activities
- Warm-up Games
- Optional Flexible Games
- Singing
- Playing instruments
- Improvisation
- Composition
- Performing
