Welcome to Reception!

Welcome to our Reception class page for the 2025–26 academic year.

At St Thomas’s CE Primary School, we strive for the development of sound foundations for every child. We have a passion for igniting curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and we provide a nurturing, caring and fun environment where your child can develop. We believe that every child is unique and we work in partnership with parents to provide the most effective learning opportunities for your child. We aim to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment where positive relationships are key.

The Curriculum

In Reception, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. The EYFS is broken down into 7 areas of learning:

Communication and language
Physical Development
Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design

Learning is play-based, hands-on, and encourages independence, confidence, and a love of learning. We plan opportunities for learning through a combination of ‘in the moment’ planning, continuous provision, child led, child supported and adult led activities.
